I have been so overwhelmed with all my college friends. I believed that the high school-is-the-best thought isn’t true, it is actually in college that you meet your truest friends.

Maybe. Maybe not.

I think I’ve just said that because, as I’ve said, I was overwhelmed. The fact that I got to study in UP for my degree, with the unique culture, very diverse people and all… it all somehow made me believe that my UP life is actually the best.

At some point, it really is. But I must not forget my high school years. There have been many best times within those four years, too.

I just finished watching Little Manhattan, and I was reminded of how wonderful things can be when you’re still young and everything’s just a start. It’s fun to know what you ought to do when something comes up, but it’s a little more fun to not to know, you get what I mean? It’s like, you discover things and make them work out, and when they do, it feels good. Especially when you’re still young. It’s like telling the world, “hey, did you see that? Even if I’m young I make things work out.”

It’s so different when you’re in college. Everybody expects you to make everything work out, and you can’t use ignorance as an excuse. Life’s really harder.

I really feel great whenver I think about my college friends. The lakan people, whom I’ve been with since my first sem in UP, my friends at the dorm and in the college…

Sometimes I do not think of my high school friends anymore, I often even say I don’t know them anymore, that so much has changed since we all last saw each other. But after watching the film… there’s this hidden desire to once again be with the people I spent four years in that old Laboratory High School building in BSU.

At the end of the film, the song In My Life just added to the feeling. That song we sang during our Seniors’ Ball… it has this nostalgic effect on me. I remembered the stupid quarrels with the “mean girls”, the rondalla practice, the PMT trainings, the usual tambays at ate dianne’s store and the oval, the old grandstand (now gone) and the “mini forest” (now a gasoline station) which became known as “the jungle” when we started spending time there (that means we were the “animals”, hehe), the teachers we make fun of, the monthly activities of the clubs, the pageants, programs at the gym, flag ceremonies, flag retreats, JS prom, bulletin boards contests (this brings out the creative side of all sections, and was a major bonding moment for the self-proclaimed artists of each class. *ehem ehem*), the belly corner, jorwees, boulevard, intrams, foundation week, periodical exams, the uniforms and id’s, and of course, the classmates you see everyday… I miss all these pala…

Trivia: I’ve never been to my former school since I graduated on April 03, 2002. why? I felt there’s no reason to go back there. My hs barkada isn’t there (there’s 5 of us in the group, 3 went to UP diliman, LB and Manila, 1 to UST and the other 1 to Regina), and some close friends also went to other schools.

I suddenly looked forward to the day some of us have set to be a mini reunion: February 05, 2012. it’ll be the same day we planned to meet, just 10 years after.

I hope they’d also remember.

UP Lakan's CATalinuhan

i just got to the dorm from St. Mary's College, Baliuag, Bulacan, where the second part of UP Lakan's CATalinuhan was held. uhmmm.. ok lang nmn. around 200 students came, mostly from SMCB and St. Paul San Rafael.

Some alumni came. unang dumating c kuya wreckz. nakakahiya, kasi wala na siyang kilala sa resident mems. hindi niya din ako inabutan sa lakan, but i greeted him with a loud "kuya wreckz!" when i saw him. epal lng talaga ko sa mga alumni, feeling ko kasi khit d nila ko kilala dapat batiin ko sila. lalo kung narerecognize ko nmn sila. hindi niya kilala, but at least he knew somebody knows him pa din. lakan p din siya. kaya lang kasi nung dumating siya nagtuturo n ko ng language, so hidi ko n din siya nakausap. ayun. umalis tuloy agad...wala ksing kumakausap sa kaniya. kainis ung ganung attitude ng resident mems. hmpf. hindi tuloy sila nag-abot nila momma ei and mommee vena... ung dalawa nmn umalis din agad nung nagturo n ulit ako, di man lang kmi nakapagpicture...

next week sa Francisco Homes College nmn. sana mas madaming mems ang dumating, kasi kanina muntik p yatang kulangin sa magddiscuss. saka sana may alumni din. kuya brye punta ka. hehe.

it's been a while since my last post. im feeling perfectly fine now.

last week is a very "informative" one for me. i bonded with three of my closest dormmates, we just talked about almost everything we thought we ought to talk about, mostly about our relationships with other people and with the members of the (dance) group.

i was really happy to have spent the time with them, i missed moments like that. plus, it's an adventure to hide in the dark in yakal lobby until 5:30 in the morning (i think we started the kwentuhan at 11pm), then run up to our rooms para hindi kami mahuli ni ate guard. haha! nice nice experience. uulitin nmin. hehe.

what else... we got our PJRR july. yes kuya brye, i know, i have yet to comment in your blog.

about my friend with whom i had a cold war... we talked just now, not because we want to settle things once and for all, but because she missed me na daw. ha! that was her choice nmn if she wanted to preserve the friendship. i gave her the chance and choice to defend herself or kahit awayin niya p ko, basta magusap kami. i was just really against her new "love interest". i still think it's unfair to her ex and to God. if you're getting confused with the pronoun im using, yes, she's a she. and yes, with a new girlfriend. another yes, she's a lesbian. and no, we're not romantically attracted to each other.

i was right. im not feeling well. i woke up saturday morning not feeling any good.

and discovering that a friend of mine's flirting with another girl after leaving a very recent girlfriend did not help at all. to make it worse, when i told my friend how i felt about the whole thing, being unfair to the ex and all, and everything else that i cant discuss fully here, we're now having a cold war. so much for a concerned friend. another sigh.

i came home at 10 am, and everybody's busy there. my cousin from australia's coming for his 22nd bday, and unfortunately for me, we'll celebrate it at jed's: the famous calumpit resort. kmsta nmn ako, with cold and a little headache,naging cameralady...ang saya. grabe. para akong ung nasa commercial ng disudrin, hindi nakapaligo sa water hose kc may sakit.

a lot happened this past weekend.

on friday night, i stayed in the dorm instead of going home. i attended our youth service called "yo jam" in the UP film center (victory Christian fellowship). the guest speaker was the ever lovely and funny mtv vj donita rose. she's soooooooooo kulet. and yes, she really is pretty.

anyway, that friday was also the night of FOPC concert for freshies, pero pwede din shemps mga oldies and on_uP pipol, aka "JJ" aka "jumping jologs". u know, those pipol wearing black everything with all these accesories and weird hairdo's roaming around the event venue, kasi they cant afford the ticket so they just watch/listen from the outside, eating fishballs and smoking.

for the past three years, im always present at that concert, either selling tickets at the booth or checking the bags of those who enter Bahay ng Alumni, then later in the evening when the really big bands are already there, we'll shift posts with the other member orgs and go backstage, calling the bands for them to get ready or just to chat or take pictures with them.

but this year, lakan did not bother to apply for membership in the fopc, so im stripped off the free entrance and backstage pass. sigh.

by this time, i felt im starting to get sick. i missed my mom's sinigang.

last thursday, jorge and i (and a crowd of other UP CMC people) went to the JVOAEJ in AIM, hosted by, well, non other than CMFR (naks! kailngan ganun, kc madalas sa blog ko c kuya brye. nyahahaha!)

anyway, it was a fun experience. una kc there are some things that you have to hear from the writers themselves to learn them, like the different ways to get info.

pangalawa, nakaka-inspire para sa aming journ students na sa gitna ng mga problema ng media, may mga journalists pa din talaga who deserves to be awarded and recognized for their excellent works.

pangatlo, masarap ang feeling to be in a room kasama ng mga taong maari mong makasama sa trabaho balang araw.

pang-apat, masarap ang food! lalo n ung desserts. sabi nga ni jorge, "sinful" ang taste... haha, whatever. basta masarap ung food. =)

panlima, nakuha n nmin ang aming free PJRR June Issue. yey!

I’ve done something today that I thought I’ll never do again: reaffirm my membership in UP Lakan.

Since I joined this org in 2002, I’ve been a very dedicated member. I could say I’ve done everything and even beyond what I can to serve it. Not that I wanted to show off, I just love working with the resident members then. The passion and sincerity and dedication of the members (now alumni) is contagious. I saw how they work, think, plan and lead for the org’s progress, and after a year of being a “baby” in Lakan, I guess I began doing what they were also doing.

I can’t put into words how I served Lakan for 3 ½ years. I guess “addicted” could describe how I felt during those years. I’ve earned the reputation of being a consistent awardee in the “Alay sa Miyembro” and Anniversary nights of Lakan, and also being one of the “witches” for most applicants. I’m one of the members who grill them during interviews. I think some of the members and of the execom also sees me as kontrabida, kasi I don’t give a d*mn on what they’ll think of me, but as long as I know something is worth criticizing and that I have a point or I make sense, I voice my opinions out. Basta alam ko sa sarili ko na never akong nagsalita against anybody or anything para lang mambuska. Everything I did sa loob ng lakan ay para sa lakan. At sa mga taong bumubuo nito.

Before, nung nandito pa ang PILAK, KATAS, at LUNGGATIAN, akala ko forever na nanjan ung passion ko to serve. Pero mahirap pala magtrabaho sa isang org na iba na ang kultura dun sa nakagisnan mo, especially if you think the situation and the people are getting worse. The members are becoming immature inspite of all the lessons and “legacies” the oldies left them. I also felt at some point that, everything I did was not appreciated.

LOA ako for 1 sem, at dun ko napatunayan na humihina na talaga ang lakan. Imagine, ako na sobrang adik magtrabaho, biglang nawalan ng ganang tumambay man lang?! At ang lalo kong kinainis, hindi ako hinabol ng execom. Hindi nmn sa nagpapaimportante ako, but they could’ve at least did something to win me back, because modesty aside, I’m an asset to the org. I’ve proven myself so much, na khit saang committee ako mapunta I can work efficiently. If they can afford to lose a member like me, paano na ung mga hindi masyadong active? Tapos ngayon nagtataka sila kung bkit nawawalan sila ng mems. Haaayyy.

Ngayon wala na kong ka-batch sa lakan. Lahat din ng talagang ka-close ko wala na, either graduate na or nawalan na din ng gana. Pero eto ako at nagreaff ulit. I’ll still serve the org and Bulacan, but not as much. I now know there are more things to prioritize other than that. Isa pa naisip ko, I could be the devil’s advocate, para nmn hindi masyading passive ang mems. I bet namiss na nila ang ka-malditahan ko. Beware. Bwahahahaha! Lalo na ung mga execom na iresponsable. Naku, concon member p nmn ako.

Anyway, sana mdaming mag-apply ngayon. Para madami akong susungitan. Harharhar! (evil laugh)

rant # 5: Yes rain, i somehow know the feeling. it's when you really thought that at least you belong & then realized you still dont, you feel f*cked up. yeah, shit happens. but at least we still have other "groups" where we are surely accepted. that's the advantage of having many circles of friends.

officially missing you

i suddenly missed a lot of people today...

i miss my brutch barkada: ate nyms, ate vena, ate ei, guia, ate mhel and ate ca. the bday dinners, the surprises and gifts, the sudden trip to SC at midnight, the late night kwento's and screams because of the rats in the boarding house, the super loud music. haaaayyy... i miss the bruha's and the bitches. mga brutch, magparamdam nmn kyo!

i miss the solid couple i used to hang out with often. i guess they're both busy with their own lives and life together. or maybe busy with their job and rakets. or maybe it's as simple as they don't think updating with old friends are so important. or maybe i just treasure the friendship more than they do. minsan gusto ko nang sobrang magtampo. but what can i do? hindi ko pwedeng hanapin sa iba ang sarili ko. not everyone would treat you the same way you treat them. anyhow, i really miss nika and kuya tonê.

i miss kuya johan. though we get to chat almost every night, i still wish we could talk in person again. he's one of my favorite cousins, hehe. i think he'll be back here in the philippines for his 22nd bday in july... yey!

i miss lian. that insensitive friend of mine. haha. sometimes im amazed at myself for being able to put up with him. we've been friends for 8 years now, but he has never remembered my bday (april 22) though he always remember our brgy fiesta (april 25). he's my only guy friend from high school na natitira (ung iba d ko na nakakausap at nkikita, ung iba nmn, bumigay na). lian lost his fone for the nth time, so i have no idea how to contact him and ask him to treat me on his bday (june 26).

i miss sean! my 9-month old godson... he's my cousin's 2nd child, born in london. They spent their new year here, and i've been sean's yaya-ninang for some weeks. he's so heavy and he cries whenever i lay him down sa duyan... kaya i have no choice but to carry him. and then he'll fall asleep. haaaayyy... i miss chan-chan...

i miss the cmfr people. and the office. and the sofa. and the aircon. and, yes, the coffee. and a lot more. well, feeling ko reunion nmin sa JVOAEJ... haha.

last nyt was CYDS's first training for this sem, in preparation for our performance sa acquaintance party ng dorm. i just realized that it was my first CYDS training without alvin. i miss our ever patient choreographer. and one of my "crying shoulders" sa dorm. awww...

i miss my beh, c shao... she's my roommate for just a sem but we've been very close. she made me cry in my debut party. she transferred from UP Diliman to Liceo in Plaridel due to financial problems. i haven't seen her for a long time..

i miss my "old" friends in lakan: aside from the solid couple, there's xian, kuya randy, LES, mam, mischy, rob, ate bel, jhong, lei, syempre guia, ate ei and ate ven, ron, kuya chris, jorge and pong. mga lumang lakanites, overnight naman tyo ulit!

i miss my family. my dad's in saudi. sa april pa siya uuwi ulit, sa graduation nmin nung bunso kong kapatid. and khit na every week akong umuuwi, i still miss my mom and my super fun sisters.

i miss my YFC friends: kukoy, saisai, abbey, mosh, kathy, ivee, merk, bausin, troy, aj, ar-em, kuya rendell, vic, gino, jet, jo,ghie, and our tito' and tita's. at ung malaking bahay na green aka mansion sa sto. nino.

and yes, as much as i would like to avoid and forget everything, sometimes, i still miss the special days with him. hala, baka batukan ako ni rain. haha.

I just came from bing’s room, and I told her im so sleepy. Which is true. I should be really sleeping now, but I have so many things in mind that I think I need to pour as much as I can out.

First, I am excited for this sem. Though im enrolled in heavy 18 units of major subjects plus 1 CMC elective, I like my subjects and all my professors, so far. It’s been only a week since the first day of classes so it might be too early to say such things, but at least I can say my sem had a good start.

199, being our thesis proposal, I mean…. Research in journalism, is theoretically demanding, but sir arao has not yet made us feel that. The discussion yesterday was actually fun.

Im also enjoying my advertising class, it’s so interesting to know how ads were formed and works. I’ll post a lot about what im learning weekly, hehe.

Well, being a self-proclaimed artist (hey, I can dance, play guitar, draw, paint, make little crafts…), it’s just natural for me to LLLOOOOOVVVEEE J123--- Photojourn! I missed taking pictures (film 110)… wehehehe…

My 121 and 105 class are more exciting because I think these subjects might really help me land a job in the company I wanted to work for. 105 is investigative journalism. 121: The newsroom. But my prof’s mam chit. So…. Hehehehe. Basta.

Now… I used to think that when somebody shares his/her problems with you, then you’re serving your purpose as a friend. That’s why I really appreciate it when my friends would come to me and share their problems or ask for advice or just ask me to listen or analyze things together. I feel kasi that they trust me enough to tell me things they wouldn’t normally broadcast to the whole world.

just today, aside from my personal burdens and struggles, im given the chance to hear the depressing problems of two of my closest friends in the dorm. I cant tell much about them, I don’t think they want their prob’s blogged here.

But anyway… their sadness is a little contagious. I also ask myself on what to do with them and their burdens. I wish I could be of any help to them.

Still, im thankful that CYDS had our first meeting/training tonight. I feel good after the training. Dancing releases the stress and haggardness in life. It’s my outlet. It’s my therapy.

the shawshank redemption

ok, ok, i know... im kind of late na to have a review of this film since nung 1994 pa 'to. but still, gusto kong ilabas ung view ko about this. Grabe, if you're losing hope because of all the haggardness in life, this is the perfect movie to watch.

i just noticed, morgan freeman always do the narration in his movies, noh? well, effective nmn siya eh, so ok lng.

i searched for this particular film sa video rental kasi i remembered kuya tonê telling me how good this is, and it really was. it's about a smart banker who was sent to jail in shawshank for "murder" of his wife & her lover. But, "just like everybody else", andy was innocent. this was actually proved to be true in the course of the film.

in shawshank prison he met several friends, including the "man who can get you anything", red.

to make the story short, andy and red were able to live the rest of their lives outside and far from shawshank, near the pacific. how they managed to do that was the secret spice of the film. you better watch it na lang. hahahaha.

lesson learned: "fear can hold you prisoner; hope can set you free." it's in the poster. hehe. =)

19 May 2006. Farewell, CMFR. drama mode

My last day in CMFR… We were all busy photocopying and printing all our works, falling in line waiting for our certificates, burning the cd’s we need…

I really enjoyed my internship in CMFR. I learned a lot from what I did here. It’s a different kind of training, because as “watchdogs of the watchdogs”, there’s a very little room for mistakes.

Before we go they gave us free CMFR books (yey!) and PJR Reports May 2006 issue. They also awarded the 5 most outstanding interns (kathryn, junette, janice, mark and melanie) with more books.

They also prepared lots of bbq, pancit and cakes. And of course, we took lots of pictures. Haha, “farewell party”.

I would really miss my work (the piles of newspapers!!! I won't be able to read that much of news anymore...), my supervisors (their jokes, loud laughs, their trippings...sir Nathan, sir Don and mam Venus: add me to your YM contacts ha), my co-interns (well, I can still be with my UPD co-interns.. Ross, mai, Joyce, Khyne and Clarence: txt txt n lng ha. hehe), the cold office (maginaw talaga promise) and the free coffee (this i would really miss!!!!!). Hehe. I think working for an organization like CMFR after I graduate isn’t a bad idea.

haha #1. im getting more used to writing stories/alerts fast. and i can say my data gathering and interviewing have improved. also, in the past weeks, may mga lugar akong napuntuhan n dapat ay alam ng journ's... like, newsdesk cafe, Nat'l Press Club, and Camp Crame. thanks to sir brye and sir nathan for letting me work out of the office. now that's what you call on the job training. we dont just make coffee. well, we do, but for ourselves. may free merienda pa (like buko pandan, pancit malabon, donuts, pizza) from our bosses... san ka pa! rant #2: the MRT. bkit ka sasakay ng mrt? para mabilis ang byahe d b? at para comfortable kesa bus? but nooooooo!!!! last week, habang nasa platform kmi ng co-intern ko sa buendia waiting for the train going north, grabe, sobrang tagal ng mrt. sa kbila, the one going taft, 4 (imagine, 4!!!!) trains have arrived and not one sa side ang dumating. then, nung may dumating na isa, full n full n full pa. we waited for another long tym para sa susunod, and we even planned to get on the train going taft tapos nde na kami bababa hnggng makarating ulit ng Qave. at last, may dumating dn na train at nakasakay kmi khit muntik n kming maipit sa door dhl puno na dn. and that was after 2 trains on the other side have passed. again: arrrgh.

arrrghh!!! i have so many things to rant about. but i'll post each separatelykasi masyadong mahaba.

first, ang pinakamatinding balita para sa amin ng mga kapatid ko: Renren Ritualo, air 21's top shooter and leader, was traded to talk 'n text for Avenido and 3 rookie picks nxt draft. aaaaaarrrrrrggggghhhhhh!!!!!!! how stupid is that?!?!?! Renren is definitely air21's best player, and yet they let him go. the team's management even said before that Renren is "untouchable", what happened? my sisters and i (and rain) think there's money involved... i think the rookie pick rights isn't enough to let go of renren especially at this point in time, when air 21's crawling its way up the rank. Avenido (the one traded for Renren) scored only 9pts in their last game (May 12), that's just thrice Renren's 3pt shot, who, for the record, had at least 8 back-to-back 3pt shots in just one game. Avenido's definitely not enough replacement for Ritualo. now the team has to push everybody to step up and take Renren's post. it's good though that KG Canaleta took the center of attention after the said trade, he deserve to be in the lime light for being the team's potential leader now, he even scored most in their win over alaska. im also glad Tubid was injured, haha. that "epaloids"... he should be the one traded... some pba fans said this could benefit the team because it can now tap on the other players' talents and be given extra minutes in court. yeah, now Dacia stays inside longer, and... who was that? Bernardo? i wasn't even aware he was in that team before... and also Se, whom the team's management eyes to actually replace Renren's post. in their previous game last friday, Dacia, Bernardo and Se all scored 0. talented, eh?

i do not know what air 21's strategy is, but they seem to let go of their best players. last time, it was John Ferriols who was traded off to talk 'n text, he who plays pretty well and was even in the team's starters. the same case for Wesley Gonzales,now playing for San Miguel, he who had been air 21's "player na walang katulad" and "player of the week". Egay Billones was also traded off to purefoods, another good player who can shoot from the outside. Marc Pingris, now playing real good for purefoods was also a loss. and now, Ritualo. who could be the next? if air 21 express owner Bert Lina really wants to have a "tall" team, they could've given Arboleda and David away, and the team just committed suicide. wait, avenido's not that tall din naman ah... at least not as tall as de Ocampo brothers, Telan and Canaleta. By the way, Washington, #1 rookie draftee, was originally picked by air 21. but due to unknown reasons, he's now playing for talk n txt. hay naku, pugad na ng magagaling ang TnT, with Ritualo, Alapag, Cardona, Washington, Allado, Carey, and Belano. kpag hndi pa sila nagchampion nyan nxt conference ewan ko n lng.

haaayyy... another day has passed...

i woke up at 8am to get ready for my 9am class. i thought that was early enough for me not to arrive late on our first day of discussion, but i didn't realize that it was "rush hour" in the shower cubicles... and when i finally got in one, there is too little water coming out of the faucet, and none from the shower. i felt bad about it, but the worse thing is i could hear the sound of water gushing out of the faucet in the cubicles next to mine. why does it always seem i get the cubicle with the least water? *sigh*

anyway, i was patient enough to make do with the water drops (my rabbit seemed to produce more urine than the water i had for my bath..but of course that was an exaggeration) and i arrived in class just in time. i learned that Art, one of my dorm mates, was in the same class as i am, though he was staying in another dorm this summer. we were about 50 in that class, and the seats are just enough for everybody. i found a vacant one at the back, which i later found is very conducive for sleeping. well, i stayed up late last night working on the jailed journalists database [and doing other stuffs as well, i.e., hyun bin's wall paper...wehehehehe], i was seated at the last row, it was a two-hour class, and my professor isn't that good and interesting [in terms of his way of teaching] afterall. how can you blame me if my lids start to go down?

after our class i went straight to the dorm and into the aristocart to buy my lunch. i was supposed to go to the office for my internship after my class, but i decided to have my lunch in UP first before going to work everyday. i just can't afford makati rates for everyday lunch. i had an order of rice and a piece of fried chicken, very pedro-like.

i left at exactly 12noon, i even saw some cyds people at the lobby before i leave. i arrived at the office at 12:45 and started working on my 2nd alert. it was about The Daily Tribune's editor-in-chief and publisher Ninez Cacho-Olivares and two of the paper's columnists Ike Seneres and Herman Tiu-Laurel asking the DoJ to dismiss the inciting to sedition case filed against them by the PNP last February. I phoned the editorial section of the Tribune to ask if there were any updates on the issue, since both Tribune and Malaya (these two papers were the only ones who reported on the matter) haven't published anything about it after their 11 April 2006 issue. The one whom i talked to said that they aren't writing a story on it because there's nothing to write about, because the DoJ has not responded to the motions yet.

kathryn lent me melai's laptop so i could encode my article and start on organizing the facts i got from last night's research. we were supposed to submit the updated database to sir nathan during the day. i then transferred to the computer adjacent to ma'am venus's because melai needed to watch the recorded news in her laptop. i encoded the jailed journalists' database by region, with the dates they were imprisoned/arrested, their names and country. i observed that most journalists sent in jail were from africa (there were 33 of them, mostly from Eritrea and Ethiopia), China (32), Cuba (24) and Nepal (13) [from wan press, world press freedom day, and ifj sites]. my research also included 7 case studies on imprisoned journalists and actions made by concerned institutions. it was noticeable that the media organizations are the most active in being involved with the issue. well, it was understandable since it concerns them [us]. from what i gathered, the UN had only held some conferences and published press releases about the issue, but i haven't read about something big, significant action to help protect the journalists' rights. also, as of this writing, i haven't read about anything that the government of the concerned countries or any country for that matter has done to address this problem.

by the way, this project assigned to us (kathryn, khyne, joyce and i) by sir nathan is in line with the celebration of the World Press Freedom Day on 03 May 2006, with the theme "Don't Lock Up Information: Stop Jailing Journalists!".

it was really cold inside CMFR's office, it's a good thing there's free coffee for everybody. i used to have 2 cups of coffee while working, but today i only had one. it's because i was so focused [that i had no time to get up and make myself a cup] and i wanted to finish the database so i can "submit" [saved in my folder at the office's pc] it to sir nathan at the end of the day. i always try to submit the articles on my deadlines, well first because it was supposed to be that way, second i don't want my supervisors to think that i am not responsible enough to do so, third because the cmfr "community" wouldn't wait for late articles, our bosses have deadlines to meet as well, and lastly, it was shameful to abuse the kindness our supervisors show us. i think we [interns] all think that way.

it was fun in the office. i was getting along with my "officemates" well. we just need to reach out more to the ua&p duo and everybody's friends now. the noise we make is the proof of our growing friendship. haha... well, at least our bosses aren't too strict, they are kind of loud, too. it was fun listening to them throw jokes at each other [i can still hear kuya brye singing papa cologne to sir nathan..hahahaha..], the environment in the office is really light, and that was good. at least we were not too pressured with the work, though the assignments were sometimes overwhelming [especially when my buddies in the alerts section haven't showed up yet] with all the piles of newspapers lying around. the only problem we encounter is the shortage of computers... to quote kuya brye, we [interns] are huge enough for "a small company like CMFR", and sometimes we have to scan the paper that someone else is reading, and when we have to use the internet or encode our alerts and monitors there's no availble pc unit. but we still manage to do the tasks assigned to us... thanks to melai&ponce's laptops and everybody's support to each other. and the patience of our bosses as well.

i went home at 8pm with kat, hanna, joy and jam. we were thinking on what to wear tomorrow, apple thought of having a dress code: corporate thursday...right now i already have 54 hours of work, 100 hours pa... i still have almost a month to complete that, and that won't be a problem since i am enjoying my internship [so far...]. tj and i were just talking about being the first ones to grab the upcoming may&june issues of PJR Reports, because our works might just be published there. =)

tonight i don't have an assignment, but i guess i would just scan the blogs that i wasn't able to monitor during the day. buti na lang may internet sa yakal. wehehehehe...

Right now is 11:27 pm, 11 April 2006 (oh my, I was used in this format of writing dates… what can you say, sir Nathan? Hehe). I’ve been in Bulacan for 9days, and I don’t have internet access there, so I wasn’t able to update or post anything in my blog. But I can still make up for those days, right?

On 01 April 2006, I finished packing my things and stored them in the storage room of the 2nd floor girls in yakal [dorm]. All in all, I stored 5boxes (cpu, monitor, printer, books, and other stuffs), 1 bayong bag (clothes&pillow), I stand fan, computer table and chair. Aside from that, I have to bring my traveling bag, cd player, shoulder bag, and a big SM plastic bag back home. How can I possibly do that? Fortunately, my sisters fetched me from SM North and helped me carry all of those, but let me tell you first how I managed to bring all those in SM: first, I went to the said mall with the traveling bag and the plastic bag, then I left those in the baggage counter and pretended to go shopping in the department store. I then went back to yakal to get the shoulder bag and cd player, then signed out of the dorm (where Alvin gave me “something” and jep sent me off to SM. thanks to both of you, you’ve been really sweet.hehe.), and left the bag at the baggage counter (in a different counter, take note….). but I have to carry the cd player with me bcause they don’t accept “electronics” at the counter. I went to eat at goldilocks [ I had Chinese adobo (what made that Chinese anyway?) and a slice of black forest…hmmm…yumyum…), then to the nat’l bookstore and waited for my sisters. There I was allowed to leave the player at the counter and browsed in the books section, where I saw something I like to buy for myself on my bday (somebody could buy it for me thoug. Hehe), The Heavenly Man. After that my sisters came, we bought a columnar pad for our mom (which we learned later that she was asking us to buy her a columnar NOTEBOOK) & jad bought a pair of slippers, popcorn, and slippers(in that order). We finally “claimed” my things and went home. It’s April fool’s day btw.

By the way, this is a new start for me, the start of the month when I was born. It’s all over. This is the day that I set as a “deadline” for moving on. I just haven’t changed my friendster status from “it’s complicated” to “single”.

Sunday, 2nd day of April. My mom and I got up early to catch the Sunday mass in malolos city. After the mass we bought 3pirated cds (something I really shouldn’t brag about) that I must watch and do movie analyses for my BC100 completion paper. I watched all of those that day (nanny mcphee, shaggy dog & final destination3) but wasn’t able to write the paper.

The next day, 03 April, I went to Philcoa and typed my 9-page paper, and submitted it to mam pearl. Right after going out of the plaridel hall, I texted some people that my summer vacation has officially begun.

04 April. I cleaned travis’ (my rabbit) cage full of what-not’s, swept the floor and scrubbed our bathroom. In the evening we went to my aunt’s wake (may she rest in peace…) with our cousins and their sons.

Patrick (my nephew) was 4 years old, and he can sing narda (as in!) while mimicking kamikazee’s music video. He often addresses people as “ma’am” or “sir”, which, accdg to him, he got from the policemen he saw on tv. He counts how many times he trips, saying “nasitod ako” when he meant “natisod”. Other funny “translations” that he says were “nanininghod” for “namamanhid” and “magpapaketchup” for “magpapacheck-up”!!! and when I tried to play bato2 pick with him, he uses his thumb and forefinger, saying that I lost because it was a gun. When I told him he can’t use that, he then used his pniky, saying I still lost because it was a bullet. I told him he cannot use that either. Then when I formed a rock & he a pair of scissors, I told him the point was mine, but he disagreed. He said those were two big bullets, not scissors. After that I formed a pair of scissors (having in mind the excuse that those were two big bullets too if ever he forms a rock) and he a paper. I said this time I really get the pint. Again, disagreed. Guess what that little clever kid told me… that wasn’t a paper. Those were five bullets. Talk about CHEATING!!!!!!!! And he was just 4 years old! I wonder what he would be like a few years from now… and imagine how my sisters and I really laughed and enjoyed the kid’s cleverness… hehehehe… but he really is a bright boy.

When we got home I pressed some of my clothes and arranged my things. Tomorrow is my first day in CMFR (Center for Media Freedom and Responsibility) as an intern. At last, learning outside the university!!! I was really excited about it…

My summer vacation officially started yesterday, and officially ends today. So… I had a 1-day vacation, which I haven’t had the luxury of sleeping long hours… haaaayyy… life!

Okay, so it was the 5th of the month and it’s my first day at the office. I went to the mrt station (north ave) equipped with ballpen, notebook, and packed lunch, went off to buendia station, took the jeep to reposo street (now N. Garcia), took a right turn to a small alley, turned right again and went in the ateneo professionals building in salcedo. The guard asked where I was going, and I told them I am an intern at CMFR. He asked me to sin in the logbook and said “miss, id,” while handing me a visitor’s id. It was 9:30 am, but I was supposed to be in at 9am, so I took the id and was on my way upstairs when the guard shouted at me “miss! Id! Mag-iwan ka ng id mo, binigyan ka na nga [ng visitor’s id] eh.” Haha! I didn’t realize he was asking me to leave an id…now I know. Hehe. Upstairs, I went to the restroom first and fixed myself, then went in the office. My five other “officemates” were already there, scanning (i.e. reading) newspapers. I was asked to sit down first until mam Venus was finished explaining junette’s task to her. Then it was my turn. She told me I was assigned to monitor the killings of journalists/media practitioners and anything that concerns media freedom. I was also assigned to write alerts for these monitors, which would later be sent to media organizations based in and out of the country. To do that, I have to scan 9newspapers (inquirer, bulletin, star, Malaya, tribune, standard, business mirror, business world, & manila times) everyday and look for articles and updates about my assigned topics, photocopy them and file in different folders. Then I have to make my own investigation/data gathering to be able to write alerts (the manual from IFEX that sir Nathan gave me helped a lot. Thanks sir!). after writing it, I have to submit it to my immediate supervisor, sir Nathan (who was really kind and patient with me. Hehe…), for editing, then send it to different media orgs. On my first day, I was able to scan the 05 april issues of all the 9papers, feeling sleepy from time to time. It was tiring. I went home at 5:30 pm. That was 8hours off my 150 required ojt hours! Yeah.

06 april. I came in at 10am, scanned 01-04 april issues of all the 9papers, found an update and an obit [obituary: media people who died of natural causes] article, and a possible alert. That’s all for the day, huh? What did you say?!!?! THAT WAS ALL FOR 1 DAY?!?! AS IF THAT WAS NOT ENOUGH! 9PAPERS! Paks*et… pero keri lang. Im not complaining though, hehe. I almost saw piles of newspapers in my dreams, but that was ok. Honestly, working in cmfr is fun, especially when im starting to get along and be friends with my co-interns. And it was kind of fulfilling when you know you’ve done/accomplished something… I told you I was excited about this. I really want to work na…. Haaayyy… I went home at 6pm (overtime, again. Because I came late..) and was kind of tired already…so I already slept after having dinner.

07 april. It was mommee ven’s bday. Wala lng, hehe. I came in at 9:30, and started working on the alert that I was supposed to submit that day. At first I did not know what exactly to do, how I’d go about with my article. I used the internet, the books, the manuals, the article of the alert, just sitting there and thinking and staring and feeling frustrated. After lunch we had a meeting with mam simbulan, who asked our supervisor to send us to different beats where we are to observe the reporters’ culture. And we had boy bawang as snacks… hehe, that’s what we call perks. =)

after the meeting I approached sir Nathan and told him I was having a problem with gathering data for my alert because I cannot find anything about it in the internet. He told me ganun talaga, that’s why I really have to make my own investigation. So I took the telephone directory, dialed some numbers, asked for other numbers, talked to someone from MBC(Manila Broadcasting Company), NTC (Nat’l Telecommunications Commission), KBP, Radyo DXND Program Director Malu Manar (Cotabato) and Mayor Luz Tan of Kabacan, Cotabato. After getting enough facts to support my alert, I wrote it (typed it actually) and submitted it to sir Nathan at 6pm, just in time before I go home. We took some pics (with my co-interns) at the “intern’s space” and called it a day. Now I have a total of 25 hours. Yey!

It was Saturday and I don’t have to work at the office but at home. I did the laundry, bathed travis, arranged my clothes’ drawer, watched kim sam soon my sister borrowed from her friend (thanks ahbi!), and slept. That was it. I went to the smallest details of my previous days so don’t ask for more this time, okay?

Sunday, I cleaned the rabbit’s cage, watered the plants, cleaned the windows (mom said I MUST, for it will be our brgy fiesta 2 weeks from now), the window screens, venetian blinds…I took a bath and pressed my clothes, and fixed all my things that I’ll bring tomorrow. Hey, im going back to UP.

After a few days… without a real vacation… im back in UP. I worked on the dorm stuffs first then went looking for an MST subject with Uding. It was along day, hunting for nothing. Badtrip ang tricoll…. Arrrggghhh!!!! We were very tired, but did not got any subject (though I already have 3units, I still needed 3 more). We went back to the dorm and I got my things from the storage room. After an hour I’ve fixed my things --- my pc, bed, clothes, utensils, stuffs. I wanted to sleep, but im hungry. I had dinner at jollibee philcoa with uding, labelle and mel, went to mercury to buy food and toiletries, watched encantadia and kim sam soon, went back to my room, made an audit of my expenses, and slept. So tired…

Finally… 11 april. I got up early and took a bath, went to AS and enlisted eng100, with a very inconvenient sked. I went looking for another one but there was none, until… while I was on my way to free lunch (at nika’s house in sta. Maria)… pedro texted me saying he will cancel his slot in envisci. Haha! That was my chance to have the additional 3units… so after eating I went back to UP, met pedro at villadolid bldg and enlisted in envisci. I went back to AS to cancel my slot in eng100, went to CMC to have my form5 signed by sir arao, had my form checked and assessed, and paid for my tuition fee (P 2, 177.50). went back to the dorm, stayed in the lobby with clarc, ever, and cyds pipol, had dinner at LB (half rice and half sisig), watched “life is beautiful” cried, prayed, and wrote this looooong blog post/diary.

So, how would this new day turn out? I hope it will be better than falling in long lines… im going to work later, I hope I would be able to wake up early. Hehehehe…

march 31 at 1pm... akala ko tapos na ang sem ko. un kasi ang deadline ng huli kong paper (j111), at hindi na talaga ako pwedeng magpa-late sa pagsubmit dahil dapat nasa makati na ako ng 2:30. pero knina lng ay napagalaman kong hhntayin ni mam pearl ang completion paper ko sa monday. ibig sabihin, hndi pa ko pwdedng magrelax sa bulacan (sigh)... pero keri lng.

random thoughts:

i hate this time of the school year... sa pagtatapos ng klase may mga taong mejo matagal mo ding hndi mkkta, kc ggraduate n cla or hindi cla magssummer... (Biiiiinnnggg!!!!!!!!) at... after ko magcram for my 20-page paper knina, hndi p dn ako makpagpahinga dahil kailngan ko magkahon ng mga gamit d2 sa dorm... wish ko lng hindi madaganan ng kung ano2 si kevin (pc ko)... at ang computer table! at ang printer ko! balak ko sanang iuwi un, kaso lng iluluwas ko n nmn after a week, paano kasi summer [class] na. haaay... bkit gan2 ang buhay UP, tinitipid n nga sa budget tinitipid pa bakasyon. pero sabi nga ng daddy ko, ok lng daw un, dapat daw laging busy para walang room to think about *tooooooot* hehe, secret n nmin un ng daddy ko.
